PARADISE BITCH | PICNIC

Tianzhuo Chen was originally a visual artist who has long since established himself as a force not only in the club and fashion scene, but also on theater stages. In these two video works, garishly colorful semi-realism flows into fantasies rich in imagery. Religious symbolism, urban subcultures, and queer aesthetics blur into a grotesque, kitschy, atmospheric mix.

There will be discussions with the artists following selected performances.

CROSSING OCEANS

At the middle point of the festival, we present the discussion and performance weekend CROSSING OCEANS to delve more deeply into some of the issues addressed in the performances (see pp. 13 – 16). On November 5, there will be an opportunity to chat with the artists during a traditional Bavarian sausage breakfast.

FILM SERIES

In advance of the festival, the cinema Werkstattkino is showing a series of films from Asia. Soldiers who suffer from a mysterious sleeping sickness and a mystical world under the earth: CEMETERY OF SPLENDOUR is simultaneously a meditative as well as a humorous story, which moves along the threshold between dreams and reality, the present and the past. With the question in mind of which path and which means can lead to freedom, the film EIN JUNGE NAMENS TITLI (A BOY CALLED TITLI) relates the desperate attempt to free oneself from the criminal and impoverished world of slums. In Sion Sono’s poetic science fiction film THE WHISPERING STAR android ID 722 travels as a package delivery android across the universe and searches for lonely inhabitants of secluded and desolate landscapes; the film was shot on location in Fukushima. A TOUCH OF SIN tells the story of four destinies in an episodic manner in a modern divided China dominated by social inequality.
